Last week in Sydney Creative Sydney happened down at the MCA.
great discussions and really encouraging inspiring to hear/see what is going on in this city.
I felt really excited.
I went to “Scratching the Surface”, an installation and live painting event exploring the quality and temporary nature of public art in Sydney, featuring artists BeastmanMax BerryNumskull, Phibs and Roach. They collaborated with Sydney band Cameras and the performers from the Rapid Response project (directed by Laura Scrivano)
and
also went to "The New Niche". Were they had a panel discussion about going deep, not broad, to connect with your market: how do creative businesses and practitioners maintain authenticity while expanding audiences? The panel explore the shift from niche to major markets in skate, surf and cycle cultures.  Monster Children and some others was really cool. They are seriously true to themselves and what they do. Definately no selling out there! Check out their new mag out now.

oh and this is me crocheting on the ferry on the way!

ABC radio Knit in this morning. Got up at 6am to head in to Ultimo with the fairlight knitting nazi's! Well, it is just my mother and next door neighbour and we only get cranky when we have a difficult pattern and we have to concentrate really hard and count and someone tries to "have a chat" with us. Please, we are concentrating!
It was freezing 7degrees in Sydney. Yikes.
It was lovely to participate in this community project and to see all the beautiful knitting people had done.
Amazing the ages and stages and males and females that were there.
I love community.
see you next year.

This is a plug for my friend Suzie's first solo exhibition. I am pretty excited for her, and also inspired by yet another person who is following their heart and being brave enough to show it to the world and hopefully inspire others to do their own thing. See you there!

SUZIE IDIENS UK/AUSTRALIA
Painted Objects
CONNY DIETZSCHOLD GALLERY  |  SYDNEY  |  COLOGNE  |

OPENING
SATURDAY 5 JUNE 2010, 4 – 6 PM

EXHIBITION DATES
5 JUNE    30 JUNE 2010

Challenging the conventional definitions of painting and sculpture, Suzie Idiens expresses these core principles through concrete, non-objective wall mounted objects. Her practice is an ongoing investigation into formal concerns of colour, mass, line and spatial composition.

Working with large geometric forms, solid blocks of colour and materials generally found in the building industry, this current series explores the notion as to how and why geometric arrangements and compositions become pleasing to the eye.

The Painted Objects exhibition is a success story from the recent Art Month Sydney Artist Speed Dating event.
